The late, great Ernie Harwell, the Hall of Fame announcer for the Detroit Tigers used baseball as a metaphor for life before he passed away. He once wrote, “Baseball is a lot like life. It’s a day-to-day existence, full of ups and downs. You make the most of your opportunities in baseball as you do in life.” Ernie obviously had a lot of respect for baseball, and now we are showing our respect for the game by symbolically put the game on a pedestal.
