The United States Senate has only had two gavels during the two centuries the body has existed. From at least 1789 until 1954, an hour shaped chunk of ivory was banged to call the Senate to order. The second gavel was given to the Senate by the Republic of India, and it was first used on November 17, 1954. Although not as historic as the Senate’s gavel, we believe our Gold Gavel Plaque (item WF100) will be adored by any lucky recipient. Measuring 9” x 12”, this walnut rectangular board holds a full size gavel. The gold colored gavel has been mounted above a gold trimmed ebony engraving plate that has been screwed into the walnut board. The plate will hold up to five lines for personalization, and our engraving is free.
